Pudina Podi Cucumber Raita Dip

Pudina Podi Cucumber Raita Dip

Pudina Podi Cucumber Raita Dip

Pudina Podi Cucumber Raita is the kind of dip that comes together in two minutes flat — thick perugu, grated cucumber, and a measured spoon of Minty Pudina Podi whisked straight in. The podi brings dried pudina, cumin, mustard, and tamarind into the bowl in one go, so there is no roasting, no grinding, no fuss. The result is cool, mildly sharp, and aromatic in a way that store-bought raita mixes simply cannot match.

Prep: 7 min  |  Cook: 0 min  |  Serves: 2  |  Difficulty: Easy

Ingredients

  • 2 tsp  Minty Pudina Podi
  • 1 cup  thick perugu (curd), chilled
  • 1 small  cucumber, grated
  • a pinch  salt, to taste
  • 1 tsp  roasted jeelakarra (cumin) powder (optional, for extra warmth)
  • a few  coriander leaves, finely chopped, to finish

Method

  1. Grate the cucumber and squeeze out most of the water with your hands — the raita stays thick and does not turn watery this way.
  2. Spoon the chilled perugu into a bowl and whisk it smooth so there are no lumps.
  3. Add the Minty Pudina Podi and whisk again — the dried pudina and tamarind will perfume the curd immediately and you will catch the sharp, minty aroma rising as you stir.
  4. Fold in the grated cucumber and mix until evenly distributed. Taste for salt and adjust.
  5. Finish with a scattering of chopped coriander leaves and a small pinch of jeelakarra powder if you like extra warmth. Serve immediately as a dip, raita, or side alongside rice, paratha, or even as a spread on toast.
